Book Discussion Today!

December's lunch book discussion will feature the books of your choice. Come to the LMC classroom today during lunch and share your best-bets! BOB members are especially encouraged to attend because we will have NO meeting this month!

*Bring your own lunch. Some snacks will be provided.

Hope to see you there!

Our January selection is Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. Listen for the announcements after break for a specific date.

Read the book over break, come to the discussion in January, then go see the new movie...sounds like a plan to me!

Snow Day!

Due to yesterday's snow day, our meeting will have to be rescheduled. It will not work for me to have it next week Wednesday the 16th--Key Club meets that night--and with all the extracurricular clubs meetings, I think that it will be difficult to have it during 6th hour before the holiday break. Is there a day that works better for you to come during 6th hour or would you prefer a lunchtime meeting?

For sure, the 17th would not work during lunch--book discussion that day! What are your other ideas?!? Please post a comment!!

Moodle is back!

Practice questions will be available starting January 1st. We will be using Moodle @ http://moodle.cesa11.k12.wi.us/battle/ to communicate with other teams, access practice questions once they become available, and take the Draw10 Quiz. Please do not take the Final Practice Quiz—we will do this together as a team before the final battle. Check Moodle (and our blog!) often for updates.

Our team login information is:

Username: hsberlin

Password: CLUE: a 3-letter abbreviation we use for our team (could also be someone’s name)—See Ms. Gietzel if you need more hints… :)

Take some time to browse around Moodle and brainstorm some information you’d like to see in our team profile…we’ll add this at our next meeting.

Speaking of that, our next meeting will be next Wednesday, December 9th during 6th hour in the LMC Classroom. Hope to see you all there.

This cold weather and SNOW makes me want to go home, snuggle under a warm blanket, and read this weekend! Happy reading to you all!!

Little Brother

I just finished reading Little Brother. i thought that was a very good book. It got me intrigued really fast and i finished it quickly too. i didn't get bored in this one. It kept me thinking and on my toes. i kept on thinking something would happen, then bam something else would! i'd recommend this book if you like something to think about, or suspense.

The Hunger Games(#1)

I just finished the first book a few minutes ago and i absolutely LOVED it. I was even crying in a few places now im desperate for the next book and a little obsessed with the book. It was perfect. Its a lot like The Host but yet completely different and i think that's what got me hooked.

Next Meeting!

I hope talking with your teammates at this week’s meeting helped to get you excited about reading more of the Battle books—I know I am! I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of Little Brother by Cory Doctorow today. I’ve heard such great reviews of this book and can’t wait to read it for myself. In any case, I know how I’ll be spending this upcoming rainy weekend…

Listen to the announcements for our next BOB meeting on November 18th. I mentioned at Tuesday’s meeting that the first book discussion of the year will be on November 12th on the book Frozen Fire by Tim Bowler. If anyone is looking for a spooky diversion from the Battle books, we’d love for you to join us during lunch on the 12th!

In the words of former teammate Anthony, read on book lovers…read on!

Resignation

I wanted to make this official, even though I spoke with Ms. Gietzle about this. Unfortunately, I have decided that it would be best if I dropped out for Personal reasons...

Sincerely,
Anthony

Paper Towns

Greetings all!

Here's a booktalk I developed for Paper Towns by John Green. Has anyone read this one yet? Loved it!

What else are you reading right now?

Paper Towns

by John Green

The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightning, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or contract terminal ear cancer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us. I could have seen it rain frogs. I could have stepped foot on Mars. I could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the queen of England or survived months at sea. But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Speigelmen (Prologue).

Quentin Jacobsen has been in love with his next-door neighbor, Margo Speigelman, since he was four years old. They used to hang out when they were younger, but ever since they started high school, Margo and Quentin began to drift apart, especially since Margo is part of the in crowd and Quentin, well, he isn’t. Now its two weeks before the end of their senior year and Quentin is ready to move on. That’s until the night that Margo cracks open his window and climbs back into his life. You see, Margo has an elaborate scheme of revenge planned—she recently discovered that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend—and she needs Quentin’s help to execute it.

So, they spend the entire night together driving around town, delivering rotten fish, taking blackmail photos, breaking into SeaWorld, you know, the like.

The next day before school, Quentin can’t help but feel like things have changed between him and Margo, back to the way things used to be.

But, when he gets to school, Margo isn’t there. She doesn’t come the next day, or the next. In fact, next thing he knows Quentin is being questioned by the police and finds out that they suspect Margo has run away again. And this time, she has left a trail of clues meant only for him to follow.
